Oddities

In the Great White North stage, two out-of-bounds gravestones can be seen off the map.

(Source: Hey1mJay)

Upgradable Turrets

In the Wall-Nut Hills stage, near each base, the Defender Bot that Engineers can build are actually leftover Zombot Turrets from Garden Warfare 1! However, when it’s upgraded to tier 2, becomes a broken and glitch-prone tier 3 bot.

Crazy Dave

In every scene in which the Van is flying, looking closely into the window can show that it is none other than Crazy Dave piloting it! This is hard to see, however.

Zombopolis Trains

In the Zombopolis map, the trains found in the junkyard travel much further out of bounds than one would expect.

Primary weapon

The primary weapon for Super Brainz is the Heroic Fists. When used, Super Brainz will throw a punch. However, the player can do a three punch combo attack by holding down the attack button, dealing 15-25-45 damage. It has infinite ammo and does not need to cool down if the attack button is held down too long.

Super Brainz also has a second primary weapon named Heroic Beam. Similar to Captain Deadbeard’s Spyglass Shot, it can be used when the player zooms in. When the player attacks, Super Brainz will fire out a laser beam which requires to cool down when fired for too long. The beam deals 1-7 damage depending on range.

Playable Zombies

There are a total of eight playable zombie classes, with each having their own unique weapons, variants and abilities. The eight classes consist of the Foot Soldier, the soldier class, the Engineer, the engineer class, the Scientist, the medic class, the All-Star, the tank class, the Imp, the new assault class, the Captain Deadbeard, the new sniper class (also with a shotgun), the Super Brainz, the new melee class and the Hover Goat-3000, the new support class.

Trivia

  • The names of his abilities are all alliterative.
  • He is called Corn by the character sticker and Sticker Book.
  • The fact that he fires projectiles from his «arms» seems to reference a concept idea from the original Garden Warfare that deceits plants attacking using their arms rather than their mouths and heads.
  • He yells occasionally while firing his primary weapon or using abilities.
  • In the beta, the Cob Busters had 40 ammo instead of the 35 ammo in the finished game.
  • The default Kernel Corn is currently the only character in the game to be buffed in every character balancing update.
  • His Cob Busters visually lose kernels when the ammo from his primary weapon is used.
  • He has the least elemental variants in the entire game, with only having BBQ Corn.
  • According to the stickerbook, he was fighting overseas during the events of Garden Warfare 1.

Spawnable Plants

Spawnable Plants (sometimes referred to as Potted Plants) are a type of NPC plants that can be planted by the player.

Strategies

Fighting With Torchwood

Torchwood is the tankiest character in the game (excluding the Z-Mechs and the Infinity Robots). He also plays a role very similar to that of the All-Star’s. Torchwood shines when he is closer to the opponent as his abilities (notably Blazin’ Blast) are a lot more effective and in some cases can only be used at close range.

However, using Smoldering Madness gives you good ranged firepower, so if you need to be in a long-ranged encounter, use this ability. While Torchwood may have more health than any other playable character in the game, he is relatively slow and possesses the largest hitbox in the game of the Plants, making him very easy to hit.

If you feel that you are in danger, activate your Leaf Shield to temporarily reduce incoming damage. With the Leaf Shield active, Torchwood is able to tank a single ZPG (leaving him with 150 HP left). Blazin’ Blast any Zombies that get too close (for example, the Scientist, Super Brainz and the Imp).

Make sure to time your Blazin’ Blasts correctly as if you activate it too early, it can completely miss. On the other hand, when used well, it can quickly win you the fight.

When on the attack, activate your Smoldering Madness and push forward. While Smoldering is active, light up as many zombies in the area. Concentrate your fire on the big Zombies, then frequently spray at the weaker ones. This forces zombies into cover while sometimes even vanquishing them. Note that you cannot activate Leaf Shield while Smoldering Madness is active. Because of this, make sure you have plenty of health before using it.

Try not to stray too far from other plants as Torchwood is very weak on his own. Hanging around Sunflowers is a good idea, as they can keep you alive.

Fighting Against Torchwood

Seeing that Torchwood has the most health out of all the playable characters on the plant side (excluding the Junkasaurus), you should try to avoid one on one fights with him. Instead, team up against him, preferably in an area where he cannot reach you with Blazin’ Blast.

His large hitbox makes him very easy to hit with ZPGs and Super Ultra Balls. If you see one using Leaf Shield or Smoldering Madness, try to immobilize it as fast as possible.

The Imp’s Gravity Grenade is great for stopping a Torchwood in his tracks, as it lifts him into the air for everyone to shoot at. All Ice variants of Zombies are very effective against Torchwood. Overall, it is imperative to keep your distance.

Abilities

Left abilities
Super Ultra Ball The Super Ultra Ball is the ultimate in Plant-stopping projectiles. Fire it on the ground, or while airborne. It’s your choice!
Super Multi Ball What could possibly be better than launching a fireball from your hands? Launching multiple fireballs from your hands, of course!
Super Guided Ultra Ball Tired of Plants dodging your fireballs? Worry no longer! The Super Guided Ultra Ball maybe slow but sure packs a punch, AND it chases plants!
Center abilities
Turbo Twister The Turbo Twister transforms Super Brainz into a chaotic whirlwind, damaging Plants as they’re sucked towards him.
Right abilities
Heroic Kick The Heroic Kick is like two abilities in one! Kick your way through Plant foes on the ground, or use it in the air to close distance towards your objective!

Strategies

With

Playing as the Scientist takes a bit of practice. You need to know when to retreat, when to heal yourself and your team, and when to attack. A good loadout for offensive scientist use is the Warp ability, the Armored Heal Station, and the Sticky Explody Ball. Try to keep an eye out for any flanks you can in the plants defenses. Doing so can catch the enemy off guard, disrupting whatever it is they were doing.  Also try to have two Warps available on you before you try to attack. Use the first warp to get close to your target, and the second warp to flee if you need to. Heal. Repeat. Also be sure to heal any teammates you can. Useful healing abilities for the Scientist include the Mega Heal Bomb and the Zombie Heal Station.

Against

One of the key factors when engaging a Scientist is the range you engage them. Depending on the type of Scientist, be it an Astronaut or a Chemist, you will want to be either a long or medium distance from him. Since the Scientist and his variants achieve maximum damage at close range, you want to keep a good distance when engaging. Try not to let the Scientist get too close to you, as that is when he becomes a real threat.

Effective counters to the Scientist include the Cactus, the Citron, the Torchwood, the Peashooter and the Chomper.

Team Vanquish

In this mode, Scientists are vital to the team’s success, as they revive much faster than other zombies. Reviving a zombie subtracts a point from the other team, so because of this, the Scientist should try reviving every vanquished zombie he sees. The Scientist should try sticking their Sticky Explody balls onto zombies that get close to plants, like the All-Star. If the Scientist is in a combat situation, he should warp closer to the offending plant in order to get more damage. Scientists are easy prey for the Peashooter, as they move very quickly, and are hard to hit. Cacti are dangerous at long range but the Goo Blaster makes short work of them at close or mid range. This class is useful against Chomper, as Chompers need to get close to deal damage, the Scientist Zombie deals more damage than Chomper at close range, so they should take advantage of getting Gooped, and shoot down the carnivorous plant when they get close.

Gardens & Graveyards

The Scientist has two possible roles in this mode: being the zombie team’s Medic or a fast-moving close-range attacker. The Scientist’s high damage at close range makes it a good class for assaulting the garden since the plants have to stand within the garden’s capture zone to block the capture, which forces them to come close to you, allowing you to gun them down. Keep track of your teammates’ health and deploy Zombie Heal Stations near groups of injured zombies. If you wish to maximize your healing power, use the Mega Heal Bomb to provide healing more liberally. At longer ranges, the Scientist is highly vulnerable to the Cactus, Stay behind cover and use Warp to avoid the Cactus’ line of sight. Once you enter close range combat with the Cactus though, the Scientist can make short work of it. Peashooters are a little harder to deal with, they can use rooftops like the Foot Soldier to avoid close range combat while attacking you with their superior range and they have Hyper which allows them to, should they be forced into close range combat, avoid your shots while retaliating with their splash damage. Sunflowers are merely a nuisance at long range since their weapons suffer from a noticeable damage fall-off and at close range, their below-average attack power makes them weak at self-defense. It is at mid range where they are dangerous since if they can keep out at an arm’s length distance from themselves, they will be able to deal large amounts of damage to you while your weapon’s damage fall-off will play against you. Forcing plants into cramped corridors and tight spaces allows you to use your high close range power to gun them down almost regardless of their health.

Tale of the Taco

The Tale of the Taco event, which was leading up to the reveal of Battle for Neighborville, has several scrapped features to it. For starters, in the player’s backyard, they could interact with a telescope in which they could’ve interacted with a character named Talk-o, which is a giant taco on top of the Town Center. The taco was referred to as «the taco of your dreams.» After the dialogue with the taco, the player would see a screen that would have shown rewards. It is presumed that these rewards would have been for Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, as the name for that game was also found within the UI setups for the reward screen.

Another thing left unused was a Propulsive Salsa mode. This would’ve been similar to Team Vanquish, but there are hidden salsa power-ups around the maps, and collecting them would give the player buffs, such as low-gravity. This is similar to a cut mode from Garden Warfare 1 called Super Team Vanquish. For unknown reasons, this event was scrapped and scaled back.

Spawnable zombies

There are 17 Spawnable Zombies that can be used. To summon a zombie, look for grave dirt piles. The spawnable zombies are used as assistance to fight against the plants in Gardens & Graveyards. Each are considered consumables that once used can not be picked back up. Spawnable Zombies can only be obtained by purchasing sticker packs with in-game coins.
