In the current release of hiding DS4 for Windows 10, the feature isn’t supported without a workaround (disabling the Network List Service and restarting the computer, but be cautious about this practice).

Solution 1: Un-installing and Reconnecting DS4 Controller Device

This issue can be resolved by uninstalling and reconnecting the DS4 controller device. To proceed, follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Close DS4 Windows and disconnect your DS4 controller if you haven’t already done it.
2. Press Win + R keys to open ‘Run’ dialogue box and type ‘control panel’ followed by the Enter.
3. Inside the Control Panel, navigate to ‘Hardware and Sound’ settings by clicking over it. Now, click on ‘Devices and Printers’ listed at the top in order to access all the devices connected to your PC.
4. Now, reconnect your DS4 controller to your PC. It would popup an icon of a game controller as depicted in the image below. Right-click on the icon and select ‘Properties’.
5. Inside your DS4 controller properties, click on the ‘Hardware’ tab at the top and double click ‘HID-compliant game controller’ to open its properties.
6. Now, navigate to the ‘Driver’ tab and click ‘Uninstall Device’. This process would uninstall the game controller. Make sure to disconnect it from your PC after performing the aforementioned steps.
7. Open DS4 Windows on your PC and reconnect your DS4 controller. Your game controller would popup inside the Controllers section.

Some Troubleshooting Error on Ds4Windows

This is why I am writing about some of the common problems people have encountered while using this application. If you are experiencing the same problem, you should read these fixes.

Device Detection Issue

It is possible that your DS4 in Windows will be permanently disabled by Exclusive Mode if DS4Windows does not detect your DS4 and the lightbar does not glow orange.

You can check to see if the controller works by connecting it to another USB port. If you’re experiencing this issue then try updating your software by downloading the latest version from the website. This issue probably affected the older versions of DS4Windows.

In case your DS4 is disabled, open the (Device Manager>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager) and look for devices listed under the Human Interface Device>/HID-compliant game controller section.

You can check the phone instance path of the device and see if it is a DualShock 4 device if the system icon appears as a down arrow icon.

You can re-enable the device by right-clicking it and choosing “Enable device.” This will allow the device to be seen again and apps will communicate with it.

Disable Steam Controller Mapping Support

ecent updates to the Steam client have enabled Xbox Configuration Support by default (as of 2018-12-13).

The Xbox 360 controller must first be mapped to KB+M bindings (Desktop Mode) before Steam can begin a game.

For desktop mode and games launched outside of Steam, this simulates KB+M behavior for the generated Xbox 360 digital controller.

Steam Big Picture Mode should be open, you should go to Settings>Controller >Controller Settings, and you should uncheck Xbox Configuration Support and PlayStation Configuration Support until DS4Windows has been properly installed.

This solution is a bit more complicated, but it is tried and true. It’s confirmed as working by the majority of the users. To do it yourself, follow the steps:

1. Download and install PS4 Remote Play.
2. After the install finishes, go to the Windows search box and type Device Manager. Hit Enter.
3. In Device Manager there should be a lib32 Wireless driver. Right-click the Wireless Controller Driver and uninstall it. Also check mark Delete driver software for this device before uninstalling it.
4. After the uninstall finishes, connect the DS4  and let Windows install the drivers automatically.
5. Now download, install and set up DS4 Windows without the controller connected.
6. After that, connect the controller. It should be instantly recognised.
7. In DS4 Windows setting, check mark the Hide DS4.
8. If you only need the default profile, uncheck Swipe touchpad to change profile.

That’s it. Your controller should now be recognised instantly and everything should be in working condition. Again, this solution is confirmed by many, and if you do it properly it should certainly work for you, too.

How to Install DS4Windows with Drivers?
